Missionary Has No Money To Pay Electricity Bills

No Electricity For Missionary

"A few days ago", wrote Dr. Johnson C Philip, "I had the opportunity of talking with two young brethren from Orissa [India] who have been laboring in the field for several years, but who are supported by none of the evangelistic funds among us. One of these did not have money to pay his electricity bills last summer and the department [of electricity] severed the electric connection when he did not pay up for five consecutive months. Their infant son, barely a few months old, survived the summer with difficulty. The greatest predicament that comes to my mind is that those [missionaries] who can afford are supported with more funds and those [missionaries] who cannot afford are not supported at all. Dozens of our North Indian evangelists are struggling for survival." Courtesy: Insight India

The Challenge

This illustration highlights the need to better support the needy, hard working, on-the-field native missionaries, as opposed to the famous and better-off itinerant preachers.

Most of these missionaries are little known. They do not have access to modern communication facilities. They do not hold good influence in missionary funds. They do not have relatives abroad. They have nobody to take up their cause. In almost all cases, they minister in Churches of poverty stricken believers who are unable to support themselves, much less the evangelist.

In many cases, some of those who have are pampered; some of those who have not are long forgotten.
